todd comes back from picking up some dinner and dr. peterson ask him if he is ready to be a daddy to some baby girls! the look on his face was priceless...and he was eating a big mac!!!! again...he said now, okay let's do it!
my room became very busy, very fast...and they were getting the OR ready for me. blood was taken, my nurse kate was the BEST and was prepping me for what was going to take place. around 6:45 i was rolled into the OR and was given some type of numbing drug from the chest down...again, i was lucky and got a great anesthesiologist, he was the BEST!!! todd came in and then a lot of people said hi...there was a huge team of doctors and nurses there, because i was only 33 weeks...full term for twins is around 37 weeks. i don't remember them all...it was a little bit of a blur to me.
and the worst part about the whole thing...we had NO camera...so all we have is our memory...or i should say todd's....he did watch the whole thing, for the most part.
at 7:15 baby a was born...i think she cried right away...one of them didn't. they showed me her and took her away. she weighed 3 pounds, 15 oz.
7:16 baby b was born...i don't think she cried right away...and i just kept asking, why she is not crying...why??? and then she did...thank goodness! she was taken right away. she weighted 3 pounds, 5 oz.
todd went with the babies and i was rolled to recovery. i am not sure how long i was there, but i think at least 2 hours. i didn't see the babies until 10 pm. i don't have a picture, but i can still see it in my head...they were in these little oxygen tents...so little, breathing so hard and i felt so helpless.
the next morning the girls were moved to the NICU at Children's hospital. they just needed help that the special care team could not provide at that time...i didn't know think or do...i just watched as the team of nurses and doctors rolled them away....and then we headed over too...
the long hallway...in an underground tunnel to get from my hospital to children's...we made that trip a 1000 times! and it was very hot...outside it was in the mid 90's...so this tunnel was just as hot!
waiting to go up to their floor!
they were in the NICU for 4 days...
mara anne
kaylin rose
while they were in the NICU, this was my home away from home...for 4 days!
the hardest part of my hospital stay...was hearing all of the newborns cry in the middle of the night...and not having my babies with me. i made todd stay with me to help ease the pain of this, which helped a lot!
on the day i went home, kaylin was sent back over to the special care nursery.
and we were able to hold her for the first time!!!!
and we were able to hold her for the first time!!!!
k-4 days old!
and the next day mara joined her sister!
we were able to hold her as well the same night...
then 3 weeks later they were ready to come home!
i know we were ready as well...but a little scared too! the nurses taught us well...we had to learn how to take care of little, tiny babies!
k&m
i am not sure if mara is ready for the outside world in this picture!
the first day at home...
and i think bella was ready for them too!
and this is how they slept!
happy weekend...there will be one post tomorrow on their birthday!

wow! what a birth story! I still can't believe how little they were. And, that breaks my heart that you couldn't hold them until they were 3-4 days old and that you couldn't bring them home for 3 weeks. that must have been so hard!
