my pregnancy with k&m

i don't think i have shared this story on the blog before, so i thought this year would be a good time to do it!

i don't have a ton of pictures of me when i was pregnant with the girls...i totally forgot to take pictures of my growing belly and now of course i wish i had some!

about 23/24 weeks prego!

overall i had a great pregnancy.  the first 15 weeks were not that wonderful...didn't feel that great, lots of smells made me feel sick, i could not get out of bed before 8, which was hard with an 8-5 job...thank goodness i had a very understanding boss!  and i had crazy food cravings, but i body did tell me what i needed.  i got big fast, by 9 weeks i could not fit into my pants anymore and by 6 PM i looked like i was 3 months prego!

with twins, my hormone levels were very high and i was feeling it all day and night.  i never was sick, but felt nausea all day long.  i gave up dt. coke for the first 9 weeks and then i had to do something to make me feel better and it worked!

 20 week ultrasound...on 3/14/07!

right around 16 weeks i started to feel great and this lasted until about 25 weeks.  not so bad.  i got big fast and at 25 weeks i measured at about 29 weeks, so i think that is why i didn't feel so great after that.  the other major difference is i had weekly doctor appointment starting at 22 weeks...and he checked me too!  everything was great and looking good...babies were doing well, but then...

at 28 weeks i was put on bedrest!  not flat lay on your back bedrest, but no more working.  since i stood on my feet a lot as a trainer, i think my body just could not take it anymore.  my cervix was thinning out and he just wanted me to take it easy!  i could not do a lot, but a little...like shower, take a little drive to mcdonald's for a yummy dt. coke, pick up yummy lunches and attend a few baby showers!

life on bedrest was okay.  my body could not do what it use to do, i just grew tired...and fast.  i could not take the laundry down, i could not grocery shop by myself, i could not clean the house but i was able to enjoy the outdoors...it was really hot, so i was not out much and do a little bit of nesting.  and i had to go into the doctor every other day...so lots of doctor appointments.  1st appointment of the week was just a normal check and the 2nd was a check and a stress test to make sure the babies were doing okay.  i think i had a total of 10 ultrasounds as well...or more, because i had 2 in the hospital before they were born!

then memorial day weekend, we were home watching a movie and i had the worst pains...they took my breathe away pain.  i called the doctor, he asked me, how far apart are your contractions?  i had no clue, i was not watching the time, but they were going on and on...i didn't sleep a lot.  we actually went for a walk around the block at 2AM...i just could not sleep.  so the next night when they started, i timed them and they were anywhere from 5-8 minutes apart. this was the first of three trips to the hospital to get admitted and keep an eye on me.  i was dilated to about 1-1.5 at this point and my cervix was so thin...about 85% gone!  they gave me lots of drugs to help slow down the contractions and a shot for the girls' lungs, then sent me home.

32 weeks...mara flips...so she is now breech!  crazy girl, how could she do that...she had been head down ready to go for 32 weeks and now she is breech...so we had the talk, because of her size being so small if she did not flip again, i would have to have a c-section.  i was in the hospital again...for a little over 24 hours...and now i was at about 2cm.

2 days before i had the girls!

on monday going into week 33, i went in for my check up and i lost 9 pounds in one week...i had never heard of anyone losing weight at 33 weeks, but i did!  so i had an ultrasound and a stress test...everything looked great!  the girls were each about 3 pounds...baby a was a little bigger!

33 weeks...to the day!  it was a tuesday and i remember the day so well.  i slept more then 8 hours for the first time in a long time.  i woke up feeling great...a little sore/stiff, but great.  i took a little walk down the alley and talked to a few neighbors.  around 11 that morning, the contractions started up again...about 5-10 minutes apart.  i took my meds, took a shower, got all ready, rocked in the girls' room, read a magazine...anything to take my mind off the contractions.  i called the doctor around 2:30...go to the hospital right now and i will be there soon!

a neighbor drove me to the hospital and todd meet we there.  now my contractions were about 2-5 minutes apart...that was around 4PM.  the nurse checked me again around 5:45...i was now at 4cm.  i was admitted and the doctor ordered the strong drugs to help stop my labor and said i would not be going home.  i just thought...now the 'real' bedrest begins!  boy was i wrong...

the doctor checked me around 6:15ish...i went from a 4 to a 6 in a half hour...todd was down at mcdonald's getting dinner!  he looked at me and said are you ready to have some babies???  i said now...today, really, okay i am ready!  will they be okay and ready to come out?  he said they will be just find, but we do have to do a c-section...

come back later for the birth story of kaylin and mara!
