my life this weekend is not going as i had planned...but it is going to be a major challenge for me....in a good way...let me explain.
the plan was...
the girls were going to go up to grandma & grandpa's for a sleepover...for 2 nights!!! i could not wait...i just need a nice break from them, todd and i really need some 'us' time and i wanted to get the rest of our holiday shopping done, gifts wrapped, etc.
but, i got a phone call on wednesday afternoon from my dad....i was not going to pick up...we are not that close, but about 2 months ago he was told he has stage 4 lymphoma cancer. they started him on a chemo plan and he was going in for his last round this week and an evaluation to see how the chemo was working...
the chemo is not working...the cancer has not gotten smaller, but has spread, he can't walk, his right hand is not working and he is just in a lot of pain...and back in the hospital. his doctors told him if he doesn't do this other chemo treatment he might have 2 months to live...they are just not sure. so he has decided to do this very intense chemo treatment...the only think i know is that one dose of the chemo take 6 hours to complete and they do it for 12 days...i will know more details once i get down to madison.
so life...it is not fair, it is difficult, it throws nasty curve balls at you, but i believe in the end it makes us all better, stronger and happier people.
like i said earlier in this post...my dad and i are not close...he left when i was 2 on christmas day...i have never really thought about that much, until now...my girls are 2 1/2 and i can't even image leaving them or my husband on christmas day and just giving up on my family...but he took a different path.
my path this weekend, is taking me home...to madison, to visit my dad, to let him see the girls, to enjoy my family and to become a stronger person...even if we are not close, even if i don't agree with his lifestyle. at the end of the day he is still my dad and the right thing to do is go down, be with him.
enjoy your weekend! we are going on a road trip and i know the girls will have so much fun.
i am sure i will have some fun pictures to post when we get back.
and since a post is not a lot of fun without pictures and this was a little on the heavy side for me...here is a picture of the girls and their daddy...he is a wonderful and amazing father!
I just started to get tears in my eyes while reading this. I do not see how anyone could leave their kids especially on such a special day. You are doing the right thing by going to visit, you are being the "bigger person." I know it will be hard but it will be harder living with the regret of not going and it being too late. I wish you and your family only the best and hold on tight to those around you. You will need them more than you know.
